10 Films I’ll be Seeing at Fantasia 2012

So schedule for the 2012 Fantasia Film Festival is out and the tickets are on sale.

I got mine just yesterday so thought I’d share what I’ll be seeing:

The Tall Man – July 19

Directed by Pascal Laugier (Martyrs), this one stars Jessica Biel who is on the hunt for her young son who, like numerous children in this small town, has been taken by The Tall Man of local legend.

Inbred – July 27

This one looks like the modern UK answer to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, except that, if the trailer is to be believed, our protagonists will be dealing with an entire town of crazies in this one. Check out the trailer for Inbred. Read my review on TheFinalGirl.com

V/H/S – July 28

This one’s gotten a little more press than the rest—at least on genre sites. It’s an anthology film featuring the work of several directors, including Ti West (The Innkeepers) and David Bruckner (The Signal). Some low-lives are hired to find one VHS tape among many and, as they begin to scan through the tapes, they witness some pretty messed up stuff.

Under the Bed – July 29

I know very little about this one, except that it features two brothers, now grown-up, who come together to defeat some creature they first encountered when still children.

Replicas – August 2

Starring Selma Blair, a young couple are terrorized by a family bent on stealing their identity.

Dead Bite – August 3

I can’t even describe this one. Killer mermaids, bikini models, zombies—it just looks nuts.

Grabbers – August 4

To me, looks like Tremors meets Hot Fuzz. That’s all I need to know.

Excision – August 4

A coming of age story that includes visions of bloody sex and vampirism (or cannibalism—not sure). Check the trailer here.

Boneboys – August 4

Written by Kim Henkel, this one was actually first written as a possible sequel to the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre—except this time around the killing takes place in a city.

Sleep Tight – August 9

A doorman stalks and kills tenants in his building.

Any films I see that turn out to be Slasher films, I’ll review on thefinalgirl.com; those films that don’t fall under that category, I’ll review or discuss right here.

You gonna be in Montreal for Fantasia 2012? Gonna see any of the movies listed above? Lemme know!
